As a part of its dedicated efforts to affirm its position as a model of a sustainable lifestyle and environment protection, Ayla Oasis Development Company has recently launched an initiative to rationalize the use of plastic bottles and containers replacing them with environment friendly ones and recycling a number of such bottles and containers to be reused for planting. The initiative aims at reducing the use of environmentally harmful materials and raising Ayla workers, residents and visitors’ awareness of the importance of maintaining natural resources.
Ayla has finally collected and replaced those bottles and containers with environment friendly ones meant for multiple uses solely by each user. They are currently reused again in Ayla’s gardens for planting and seeding plants.
This initiative is integrated with the environmental programs and major investments in Ayla’s long way to the natural resource protection, emission reduction, harmful material reduction, recycling and renewable energy adoption programs, as well as green space increase.
Under this initiative, the single use plastic bottles and containers will be reduced at various work facilities within Ayla, which decreases the amount of wastes and raises the awareness of environment aspect consideration at all work chains. The small bottles will then be used for planting lantanas, bougainvillea and racosperma, which is used for landscaping Ayla Gold Academy’s yards and other facilities.
“Ayla is proud to reuse these environmentally harmful plastic materials,” said Eng. Mutaz Madanat, Ayla’s Golf Course Planting & Sustainability Tracking Assistant Manager, who is in charge of the plastic bottle use for planting initiative. “But this time, we are doing it for the sake of the environment. Instead of using them for one time then dispose of them as wastes, we collect them and use the small sized containers for planting seeds, and we use the bigger plastic bottles for growing those plants that include landscaping that represent natural life in Jordan such as racosperma, which is widely spread in the Kingdom. All this increases the green spaces and establishes the sustainability principles in reality.”
This initiative celebrates the International Plastic Bag Free Day, as Ayla responds to the world’s call for plastic pollution elimination. It tries to expand in the coming time at the broadest level by looking for economy friendly alternatives instead of using the environmentally harmful materials. It also recycles such materials in green tracks in performance of its environmental commitments in the light of the growing international concerns over the impact of plastic leveling up at water bodies on the marine life, as it could cause severe damages to nature and biological diversity.
Ayla joins a global approach that applies the best practices of natural resource protection using its location at Gulf of Aqaba in accordance with a multi-aspect strategy based on natural marine and wild lives and migratory birds and focusing on permanent activities such as environmental and natural education.
Ayla has become a model of urban projects that have paid a significant attention to natural and environmental aspects at all phases of the project in accordance with a comprehensive, clear and integral plan, which enabled it to be in the lead of the corporations sponsoring and supporting the natural and environmental protection activities. This has also enabled it to bring Ayla’s beaches into the Blue Flag Program, which is one of the environmental educational programs of the Global Foundation for Environmental Education applied in 38 counties while continuing the approach to balance between the multi-use urban investment and development, environmental and natural sustainability and maintenance of natural resources at the planning and implementation phases.
